Chocolate Pear Pie

(Armutlu Cikolatali Tart)

Chocolate Pear Pie
4 tbsp less than 2 cups all purpose flour
125 g unsalted butter, room temperature
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg, at room temperature
1 pinch salt

150 gr (5 squares) bittersweet chocolate
3 pears, peeled, thinly sliced
2-3 tbsp sugar, adjust the amount of sugar as you like

On the top:
2 eggs
200 ml 35% cream
75 ml milk
1 tsp vanilla extract

23 cm (9 inches) pie plate, oiled

Combine all the crust ingredients in a large bowl. Spread the dough in an oiled pie plate with your palm equally. Also spread the dough on top of the edges. Pierce the dough all over with a fork and bake for 15 minutes in preheated 375 F (180 C) oven.

Melt the chocolate in a double boiler. Spread evenly on the cooled crust. Mix the pear slices with sugar and place over the chocolate (picture). Blend all the sauce ingredients well and pour all over the pears. Preheat the oven to 375 F (180 C). Bake for 45 minutes or until the tops turn to a golden colour. Serve while still warm.

Hi Binnur,
What a tasty idea, a bit like poire belle helene. I'm making this cake for my birthday tomorrow (it's in the oven now). I'm curious what my guests will say about it. Knowing the Turkish kitchen from my home country Germany, it always evokes some homesickness, so it's nice to have a site where I can pick up a recipe for a cure!

Hello Binnur;
Can you tell me what 35% cream is? Is it what they call "heavy cream" in USA? Thanks.

I think it is heavy cream and it should tell you on the box of the cream:)

Hi, I made this a while ago and it was excellent. Do you think i can freeze baked pie for later use? Thanks for all of your recipes.

The mixture of the topping contains eggs, so it shouldn't be frozen:)

Hi, love the recipe, is it a popular Turkish cake or a French idea inspired : )? Cakes from your blog are the best! Ive used recipies fof many years and wasnt disappointed!

Thank you!
Actually all the cakes & cookies I've posted are popular in my country. The food brings us together, we love cooking and baking... I don't think it is French inspired. I just googled it and found one recipe under the name of Chocolate Pear Tart which is not the same:)

I've never heard about chocolate pear pie before. I'll wanna try your recipe, but to use less unsalted butter. Thx for sharing, Binnur!
